CENTER FOR GENERAL PRACTICE AT AALBORG UNIVERSITY

At Center for General Practice (CAM AAU), we have an interdisciplinary academic environment where our research focuses on improving general practice. We facilitate research-based teaching and training for general practice. We have several research domains relevant to general practice, but our main focus areas are musculoskeletal problems across the life span; the application of new technology in general practice; the use of antibiotics; and chronic diseases (such as diabetes and metabolic disorders) and their treatment. In addition, we investigate how to secure the implementation and effective translation of our research. We are involved in conducting teaching and supervision at several departments at AAU, primarily at the programs for medicine at bachelor and master’s levels.

Organization and Collaboration

The Center for General Practice at Aalborg University was established in 2015 as a collaboration between The Research Unit for General Practice in Aalborg, The Danish Research Foundation for General Practice, and The Department of Clinical Medicine, Aalborg University.

We develop our research in collaboration with general practitioners, but also with other health care professionals including medical specialists, private practicing physiotherapists, in addition to the regional and municipal health care authorites. We collaborate with foreign and domestic research environments/educational institutions, as well as the three research units for general practice located in Aarhus, Copenhagen (in Danish) and Odense.

Overview of CAM AAU

VID

VID – Network for Knowledge and Competencies in General Practice aims to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice by serving as a common focal point in a robust implementation environment across the general medical specialty. VID is a three-year project anchored across the four research units for general practice and is established between the Research Units for General Practice, the regional quality units for general practice, PLO, DSAM, two patient representatives, and the Danish Cancer Society.

North Jutland Network of General Practitioners

The North Jutland Network of General Practitioners is a forum where general practitioners in the North Denmark Region, Nord-KAP and CAM AAU can exchange ideas and experiences - both in relation to specific ongoing projects and future ideas. The aim is to promote cooperation and joint development initiatives - professionally, patient friendly, organizationally and digitally.

The User Panel

The user panel was established in March 2023. The purpose of the user panel is to have a forum where citizens/users of general practice and the unit's researchers meet for dialogue and exchange of experiences and perspectives that can be included in and qualify the research projects that FEA/CAM AAU initiates and manages. The user panel meets twice a year.
