Chronic Diseases and Polypharmacy
Increase in life expectancy entails an increase in the part of the population living with one or several chronic diseases such as diabetes and thyroid diseases. General practice plays a key role in the management of these diseases.
The research group works with a variety of different chronic diseases, focusing on developing tools to ensure continuity in care and optimization of treatment. Additionally, there are many problems relating to the fact that more and more people ingest increasing amounts of medicine.
Rational use of medicine is explored, especially in relation to the elderly, where optimal treatment depends on both timely start-up but also discontinuation of treatment. The aim is to further a better treatment in general practice. The methods are varied and include, among other, epidemiological studies, mixed method studies and implementation studies.
